　　博士学位类型：

　　西伦敦大学目前所开设的博士学位主要为：PHD(Doctor of Philosophy)以及MPhil(Master of　Philosophy)。

　　1) PHD(Doctor of Philosophy)

　　英国最常见的博士学位，特点是没有授课，整个博士期间纯搞学术研究，一般需要三到四年的时间完成，三年的supervised study+一年的write up continuation，当然英国博士学制比较灵活，博士从入学第一天准备论文，达到publication-worthy 水平即可提交，所以最快也有两年就能从博士毕业。这种博士学位也可以成为传统式博士学位。

　　2) MPhil(Master of Philosophy)

　　MPhil 属于研究型的硕士学位，但由于申请的方式与PHD 申请条件几乎一样，并且申请此学位的申请者目的基本都是为了继续研读PHD，英国大部分学校在博士申请时都提供这种学位。MPhil 从学制模式上来说其实和PHD 一样，都是做专业研究，交研究报告与写论文，区别主要在于研究时间不同，前者一般需要2-3 年时间，而后者是3-4 年。很多研读MPhil 的学生在顺利毕业后直接跳入了PHD 的最后一年。
